Agroforestry Cooperative Development Project (PRODECAFE) aims to improve the well-being and food security in the eastern provinces of the country by increasing the production, sales and net income levels of their agroforestry cooperatives and reducing their vulnerability to climate and economic impacts. PRODECAFE will support the gradual transformation of the agroforestry cooperatives into modern forms of enterprises, with efficient production and provision of services, capable of adapting to the market and the effects of climatic change, as well as other negative external impacts. Its target area accounts for most of Cuba’s production of coffee (90%) and cocoa (80%).
PRODECAFE has three main components:
Component 1: Strengthening the cooperative organizations of small agroforestry producers. It aims to enhance the physical and productive assets of the targeted cooperatives, improving their human capital, organizational and technological capacities, as well as capacity for climate change adaptation.
Component 2: Strengthening agroforestry support services. It aims to improve support services for agroforestry producers and their cooperatives, including training, provision of technical assistance and delivery of inputs and services.
Component 3: Project management and coordination. It aims to strengthen project management and provide capacities for monitoring and evaluation (M&E).
