Summary
Climate-Resilient On-Farm Water Management in Nine Valley & Delta (CROWN) aims at contributing to the enhancement of farmers’ climate resilience in the Nile Valley and Delta by decreasing poverty and improving food security and farmers’ adaptability to climate change to reduce climate change negative impacts on the livelihoods of the most vulnerable, including women and youth.
Components and Objectives
CROWN has three components:
Component 1: Increasing climate resilience and irrigation efficiency in modernised agricultural production systems. It will improve the irrigation infrastructure at the main and branch canals and their command areas and address the key challenges of unsustainable diesel pump use, flood irrigation, intermittent, inadequate and unpredictable water flow.
Component 2: Smallholders integration in profitable, climate resilient, water and energy efficient food value chains. It will provide a package of incentives to catalyse commercial FO (Farmers Organization), agri-enterprises of all sizes, impact/equity investors, and financial institutions to make and or finance climate smart-production systems.
Component 3: Programme coordination and policy engagement. The Government’s lead agency will be Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation (MALR). Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation (MWRI) will be fully responsible for the activities related to the branch canal rehabilitation.
