Climate Smart Smallholder Dairy Transformation Project (C-SDTP) aims to contribute to the transformation of the dairy value chain into an inclusive, climate smart, and competitive dairy sector, to improve rural and urban livelihoods, food safety and nutrition. Its development objective is to improve productivity, climate resilience and adaptation of smallholder dairy producers and their participation in a modern and safe value chain.
C-SDTP has two interlinked components:
Component 1: Productivity and resilience of dairy production systems. It aims to i) strengthen social, economic, human and natural capital of smallholder farmers, ii) develop, test and disseminate technical innovations and nature-based solutions, and iii) strengthen capacity to deliver essential services for sustainable production.
Component 2: Inclusive and climate smart value chains, private investment, milk consumption and policy. It aims to i) organize producers, aggregate milk and facilitate productive alliances; ii) provide support to emergence of safe, short and green value chains and milk consumption; iii) provide access to financial services and institutional and policy support.
