The overall objective of the project is to sustainably increase the income and dietary diversity of rural households in eastern and northern Guinea Bissau. The development objective is to support the diversification of family farming adapted to climate change to improve market access and dietary diversity in the regions of Bafatá, Cacheu, Gabù and Oio, by promoting rural entrepreneurship of youth and women in rural areas, and their integration into regional and subregional trade corridors.
REDE has three components:
Component1: Diversification of family farming adapted to climate change and nutrition improvement. The diversification of agricultural production will be based both on the development of plateau uplands in a logic of sustainable management of natural resources and on the adoption of sustainable water management methods in lowland areas.
Component2: Market integration and rural entrepreneurship. The second component will concern activities aiming to enhance production and commercialization by (i) opening up/connecting rehabilitated production areas to markets; (ii) improving market infrastructure; (iii) ensuring long-term users involvement in the management and maintenance of economic infrastructure; (iv) strengthening the entrepreneurial capacities of youth, women and agricultural producers organizations’; and (v) promoting agricultural product flows within the sub-region’s trade corridors.
Component3: Coordination, citizen engagement and policy dialogue. The Project coordination will be provided by a project management unit (PMU) based in one of the central regions of the intervention area.
