Summary
Programme for the sustainable, Inclusive and Nutritional Economic Development of Rural Areas in El Salvador (Rural Adelante 2.0)’s development objective is to increase the income, resilience and food security and nutrition of 74,000 rural families living in conditions of poverty and extreme poverty in El Salvador (50 per cent are women, 25 per cent are youth and 4 per cent are indigenous peoples). This population is experiencing increased food insecurity and reduced access to food, both in terms of quantities and nutritional quality. This is partly due to recurring, high-impact climate events in the country such as drought and increase in temperatures.
Components and Objectives
Rural Adelante 2.0 has three main components:
Component 1: Enabling investments for the development of sustainable and productive agrifood systems. Its objective is to provide the rural population living in conditions of poverty and environmental and climate vulnerability with enabling physical and natural infrastructure for the development of sustainable production and agrifood systems.
Component 2: Sustainable and inclusive productive and commercial transformation. It focuses entirely on investment in producers’ organizations, and affirmative actions for the participation of women, youth, indigenous peoples and persons with disability. Its objectives are to strengthen the producers’ organizations, vulnerable populations in the development of inclusive and resilient business plans and enterprises; and expand the supply of sustainable technical support, commercialization services, and permanent personalized financial services.
Component 3. Project management and M&E for learning. It aims to coordinate project management and administration for an effective execution.
