Rural Enterprises and Agricultural Development Project (READP) aims to contribute to rural economic development and poverty reduction by improving livelihoods, generating revenue and enhancing the living standards of the target households. Its development objective is to increase the income of poor rural households and young people by engaging them in profitable agribusiness and employment opportunities. The geographical targeting approach selects project target areas that are both underdeveloped and have suitable conditions for developing the value chains for the project-supported crops. It also emphasizes unemployed rural youth and women headed households.
READP has two main components:
Component 1: Enhancement of economic opportunities and smallholders integration in value chains. It aims at improving productivity, marketing of produce and profitability, supported by development of farmers’ organisations, enabling infrastructure development, and implementation of pro-poor business plans.
Component 2: Coordination and management. It aims at strengthening project management and monitoring and evaluation activities.
