Summary
IFAD and the Government of Rwanda have agreed to consolidate and upscale Rwanda Dairy Development Project’s (RDDP) achievements to design a second phase within the framework of COSOP 2019-2024. Taking advantage of the lessons learned, and in line with the priorities defined with the Government to reduce poverty in rural areas, the Rwanda Dairy Development Project – phase 2 (RDDP-2) reflects a common desire to address the barriers to a green and efficient production and marketing in the dairy value chain.
Components and Objectives
RDDP-2 has three main components:
(i) Component1 will focus on the production level, including services for production, and will aim at achieving the Project Outcome1 through two outputs: i) Enhanced capacities, production assets and community organization of smallholder dairy farmers, ii) Enhanced availability of quality feed, water for livestock, and delivery of public and private animal health and breeding services.
(ii) Component2 focuses on improving the operational efficiency of the dairy value chain for an “increased dairy value chain efficiency, investments, market access, and consumption of dairy products”.
(iii) Component3 focuses on Policy Support and Project management, monitoring & evaluation and knowledge management.
